On the first start Windows SmartScreen may warn about an unknown publisher. Click “More info” and “Run anyway”.

Games are not included. Open your own, or download them from the catalogue in the app.

  • Support from inside the app: a “Support ZXRay” button in the About window and, quietly, in the update window; no pop-ups.

1.4 8 October 2026

  • Updates inside the app: when a new version comes out on zxray.win, a button with the release notes appears in the launcher; one click downloads it, checks it and runs it after a restart.
  • Works for the installed, the portable and the bare exe alike; offline nothing happens.

1.3 8 October 2026

  • Installer and portable version: ZXRay installs for you only (no administrator rights) with shortcuts and an uninstaller, or runs from a USB stick with its data in the folder next to it.
  • The loading screen shows whole, even when the ROM prints the next file name over it right after (Knight Lore).
  • The program carries its publisher, version and copyright in its file properties.

  • First public release.
  • Our own ZXTAL core, exact to the T-state: 48K, 128K, +2, +2A and +3 with the floppy drive (DSK, EDSK).
  • 4× AI upscaling with the Real-ESRGAN neural network on your graphics card; colours always come from the original.
  • 2× image remaster for any PC and CRT filters (scanlines, Trinitron, shadow mask and slot mask).
  • Less colour clash: the emulator core itself recognises the background behind the sprites.
  • Sound remaster for the beeper and the AY chip; in 128K games instruments play the tune.
  • A catalogue of 33,894 games from ZXDB: download and play any of them with one click.
  • Fast loading of TAP, TZX, PZX, Z80, SNA, SZX, DSK and ZIP, save anywhere (F5), gamepad support.

Developed and tested on integrated AMD Radeon 680M graphics. Without DirectX 12 the AI mode runs on the processor, more slowly.
